As the wavering cry of the foghorn fills the air, the taciturn former lumberjack, Ephraim Winslow, and the grizzled lighthouse keeper, Thomas Wake, set foot in a secluded and perpetually grey islet off the coast of late-19th-century New England. Even the gulls started laughing at him lol. I like how the mermaid is seemingly laughing at him, like it's mocking him for slowly becoming more and more crazy. Just finished watching the movie about a hour ago, it was amazing feel like i need to watch it again. I wish I could get paid millions to touch some nice lady giblets for a well-crafted masterpiece of a movie. Pattinson: WHAT Dafoe: WHAT Me: Give both these men Oscars. This was a CRAZY movie. CRAY-ZEEEEE. I had to google to try to even begin to understand what I just watched. I'm not sure how I feel about spending an afternoon with these two crusty dudes, but Pattinson & Dafoe both deserve Oscars for these performances. Just spectacular. Wish I could just rent it instead. Scared the life of me. First time, I got bored. keep watching! second time. aaarrgghhh! won't ruin this. but I wanted to do the same. at the end! draws you in. only viewers will know what I mean. Willem Dafoe: Why'd ya spill yer beans. Robert Pattinson: because I'm Batman. “Please. Give me another shot.” You know what Adam Sandler, I think I will. I bet this director studied DAVID LYNCH'S CAREER. New wave of acting generation. Shadow of the Vampire is one of the greatest cinematic performances I have ever seen. Awful. Completely nonsense. 1hour & 46 minutes lost from my precious time... Soooo, this is in my recommendations and now im interested. How can you not love this man. This was the worst movie. Don't waste your time. I wish I hadn't. When you find you are 15 minutes in and wanting to check your phone you realise that this hasn't grabbed you - and it will continue like that for a long time. The two actors go through a range of emotions with little credibility but it all feels false and the storyline is a pretentious take on a familiar scenario. Nothing grabs. Nothing really interesting happens. And it is all made annoying by a soundtrack of cacophony which prevents any real tension building up in what should feel like a claustrophobic environment. “Let Neptune strike you dead, Winslow” sounds like something Dennis Reynolds would say Saw this movie. Interesting premise, but not entirely original: social outcasts are given a devil's bargain to undertake a dangerous mission (proscribed by a state entity with control over people's lives) with unknown outcomes in return eedom/clemency/escape, etc. This movie is going to be frustrating to people who prefer linear story lines that allow the viewer to make clean linkages between scenes, characters, motivations behind actions, and a neat ending that ties up all the loose ends. Much like Under The Skin, Arrival, The Fountain, and 2001 A Space Odyssey, High Life is going to require the viewer to infer the central plot from disjointed flash backs along the story line arc, and be comfortable with ambiguity intended to allow each viewer to draw their own conclusions. The pace is slow and dwells frequently on conflicts from which I could only assume the director's motive was to build tension in the viewer to reflect what grows within each character over time (years) as they come to grips with their reality. and the likely outcome of their mission. Even though the story takes place on an interstellar ship on its way to a black hole many light years away from Earth, this is a drama centered on how individuals cope with circumstances beyond their control and loneliness. Only Robert Pattisions character has something in his life, on that ship, to give him love and hope. Arrrrr. I pre-ordered this movie. Anyone know when I'll be able to watch it. Ive never seen or heard of this but now I want to cuz I love shit like this. How this movie got such a high rating is beyond even 1 star 👎. Best movie to end the year.
