History can teach us a lot about how to use energy. We have a conceit, in our modern era, that a new way to do something is always better than the old way; That our opinion of how to run things is always much better than the way things were done for thousands of years before us. I say, "Let's take a look at the old ways of doing things. Maybe there were good reasons that people did stuff like that for all those thousands of years.
