I’m the author of 20 collections of poems, including UNDER SLEEP'S NEW MOON; THE WORLD AS IS: NEW & SELECTED POEMS 1972-2015; MARKED MEN; and BED OF COALS (winner of the Colorado Poetry Award). I’ve also edited the anthologies MALALA: POEMS FOR MALALA YOUSAFZAI and A SONG FOR OCCUPATIONS: POEMS ABOUT THE AMERICAN WAY OF WORK. In September 2014 I was named Colorado Poet Laureate by Gov. John Hickenlooper. I make my living as a writer/editor and an adjunct professor of graduate-level writing and literature at the University of Denver’s University College, where I currently serve as Academic Director of two programs, Arts & Culture Management and Professional Creative Writing. I live in the mountains southwest of Denver with my wife, Iyengar yoga instructor Melody Madonna.
